While shopping at Trader Joe’s, Ellen and her son run into a classmate. After a brief conversation and a pleasant good-bye her son gets upset because the friend had to leave. Ellen has to leave her bag and groceries in the store to take him to the car to regain composure.

The Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) is an integrated resource providing diagnostic, assessment, therapy services and comprehensive guidance to caregivers, educators and family members across the region. The recently opened in-patient unit is the first of its kind in Connecticut and only one of 10 in the country.
