My 10 year old quadruplets came 10.5 weeks early.( I have a 13 year old son too) 3 boys 1 girl. Delays were expected. Early Intervention was started immediately. My daughter Hailey always had sensory issues but at 6 months stopped babbling. We knew something was wrong. At age 2.5 she was officially diagnosed. Her OT didn’t know if she would ever talk or if she would ever know her name. The therapist’s implemented PECS and she started learning to communicate. Within 5 months she started speaking. She has just blossomed since. Now she can ask questions and answer many as well. She is having simple conversations has sleep overs and even taught herself to ride a 2 wheel bike because she wanted a new one. My husband and I have always adapted to her needs but never treated her differently from the boys. We expect things from her and challenge her every day! Don’t ever give up! They will do amazing things!
One of my boys has autism also. He is very high functioning. He came in the world fighting at only 1# 15oz. He was delayed for years. After EI and therapy in school he began to develop into a growing little boy. He is main streamed in all his classes. Socially he struggles but we encourage him to play with others. The other day he came home from playing at a friends house! Again encourage challenge and expect the highest achievements and they can succeed! !!
