Our son Tyler is now 19 years old and has made such progress in his program provided by the New Britain School System called C.L.I.M.B. This program has given Tyler the independence and confidence to work in different environments and learn to socialize with his coworkers and build his social skills needed to become a working adult. He loves working at Avery Soda in New Britain and Stew Leonards in Newington. Both jobs have made him open up his verbal skills and has taught him to be more open to learn new things.
Tyler’s Journey to Adulthood
The Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care (HSC) is an integrated resource providing diagnostic, assessment, therapy services and comprehensive guidance to caregivers, educators and family members across the region. The recently opened in-patient unit is the first of its kind in Connecticut and only one of 10 in the country. The Autism Center at HSC is the nation’s first and only Patient Centered Specialty Practice for autism recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its responsiveness to patients and medical colleagues, cooperation and integration with other healthcare groups and dedication to continuous improvement.
